| no partners | | Hog Heaven. This one has been on my list for a while, and with the beautiful late-May weather, I did it. This was my first time doing this one so I took my time with it. I followed the track on my Route Scout and well-placed cairns and did just fine. Mind you, this was just the loop and nothing else, so maybe my mileage was a little short. Next time, I plan on adding Tom's Thumb and going back the North side down the climber access trails to make an ultimate Hog Heaven Loop!
The weather was good; very gusty though. It can be hard to climb along the ridge when the winds are gusting; there is some exposure. Also, the dried grass meant a lot of stickers in my shoes and socks. And cuts on my legs!
The wildlife was great on this hike. A pair of cardinals (male and female) in a tree halfway up, and a Gila Monster on the trail too! The other wildlife were the Humans going up and down the trail to Tom's Thumb. Really good hike! |
