Arrived at Camp Grasshopper on FR139C late in the afternoon on Sunday for a week of hiking and relaxing on the Mogollon Rim. Monday morning I went for a short loop hike out of Camp Grasshopper on FR139C crossing over cell phone ridge to upper Merritt Draw. Then down the ridge between Maverick Canyon and Merritt Draw and looping back to camp along the ridge between Barbershop Canyon and Merritt Draw. Stopped on cell phone ridge to text Grasshopper on the condition of FR300 on the drive in from HW87 and it's potential closure due to the Coldwater Fire. GH would be arriving on Wednesday. The meadows in Merritt Draw were as beautiful as ever but with the grass grazed down to within an inch of the ground by the elk. Stopped for lunch at the confluence of Maverick Cny and Merritt draw and relaxed in the shade for 30 minutes reading a book.
