| no partners | | This loop hike starts out going east on the Barbershop Trail from where it crosses FR145. After a short (about 0.7 mile) distance the trail crosses upper Dane Canyon where the route goes off-trail following the bottom of Dane Canyon for roughly 1.8 miles where it then climbs up the east side of the canyon to connect with an old logging road, FR9616B, no longer in use by motorized vehicles. The route follows this road south to the Barbershop Trail which is then taken back to FR145 to complete the loop. The off-trail section down Dane Canyon has minimal bush whacking with well defined elk trails to follow most of the way. The steep route up the east side of the canyon has been marked with rock cairns but dead fall has covered much of this route. It is easy to find bypasses for this dead fall. Having a gps to follow with the track or at least a waypoint at the exit location is most helpful.
The hike down Dane Canyon was beautiful with lush greenery, reflecting pools of water and picturesque rock outcroppings. The return route along the old road and Barbershop Trail is a nice stroll through forests and meadows. So I would rate this a fairly easy hike with great scenic rewards. |
