Aside from having a trail named in his honor here in Cave Creek he was at one time president of the Northern Pacific Railway and later the Burlington Northern Railway. That concludes todays history lesson.
The trail bearing his name is pleasant enough but we have found a better and more scenic way to get to it without using a car. Leaving our home we can walk to the Surrey Hills Trailhead and hike the Slate Trail to the Menk Trail and then make a lasso loop at the summit of the small hill and then return. There are some great views once you drop down from the saddle at Surrey Hills. Returning up to this saddle is a huffer but well worth the effort. This area is a hidden gem for being so close to town.
I'm not going to ramble any longer, I'll just add some further info in the photo captions. Hope you enjoy them. |
