| no partners | | A loop we've done before but this time with a new ending. We started from the eastbound Go John trailhead at the Cave Creek Regional Park. We linked onto the Overton Trail at the 5.2 mile mark and this normally would lead us back to the parking lot. This time we completed the southern end of the loop with the newly refreshed and reopened spur off of the original Clay Mine trail. We made the decision to add this onto the hike after reading about it in a couple of recent posts by @Sun_Ray. The "new" trail cuts across the southern face of Peak 2785 and is quite nice with good views. LOTS of interesting Jasper and Quartz formations in the rocks.
I don't know why, but we've always done this loop CW in the past. This time we went "against the wheel" and hiked in a CCW direction. The quotation is an obscure movie reference once again, just like in our last triplog. Any guesses? @Jim_H correctly solved last weeks quote.
Trail conditions were still a bit soggy from the recent rains and we ran into only a few hikers towards the end of the hike. Everyone said hello and good morning. The route shown in the photoset got cut off prematurely, but you can visualize the remainder of loop if you have any sort of imagination. :-)
One last thing of note to mention....the horseback ride concessionaire at the park must still be feeding his horses Beefarinos, as the road apples on the trail could almost knock you over with their "unique" smell. |

Wildflowers Observation Isolated Brittlebush galore sprouting up after the rains. Should be a big bloom this season. |
