| no partners | | This trip combined exploring both an abandoned alignment of US 97 and the abandoned railbed of the Weed Lumber Railroad (later the Long Bell Railroad) just northeast of Weed, California. I walked the US 97 alignment northeast of Weed, California, as depicted on the 1954 topo map (see photo album) between the two blue marks. The curve in this alignment skirts a tongue of a lava flow. After this section of the Long Bell Railroad was abandoned, a short portion of the railbed in this area was used to host the highway. I walked the old highway from the lower mark to Forest Service Road 42N15; on the return, I walked as much of the old railbed as I could as it climbed away from the highway grade. |
