Yes the resort is a bit of a bummer to see for the first 3/4 miles of the hike, but it did have a fairly low profile for being such a huge property. After leaving the resort area the trail is well shaded and hides the canyon walls as you hike to payoff at the end. Had a big white tail deer dart out directly in front of me at the midpoint, that sure woke me up ! The trail ends with a bit of a climb, but when you leave the trees behind and surface on the red rock - what a view! I think it is my favorite so far of all my Sedona hikes. I walked a bit beyond the signed trail end and climbed a tier or two and found a great overhang - probably carved by the wind - that provided shade and a great spot for an early lunch. Looking out at the immense canyon walls with all of the color and beauty surrounding me, had one of those OMG moments that only my fellow hikers can appreciate. Make sure you put this one on your list if you have not already experienced it. |
