| no partners | | Finally, a real hike but little did I know that even this little bit of elevation wasn't going to be easy. It's been nearly a month since I've had the opportunity to stretch my hiking legs other than on Lookout Circumference. It was a little warm but with the cloud cover, still nice. I stopped at Safeway to pick up a little lunch that I ate in my car before putting on my shoes and heading up to hike this clockwise. I think the other way would have been a little easier.
I put my new phone and Kemosabe in my waist pack and my camera and headed up the very wide trail. It starts to narrow the higher you get. It seems there are some reroutes here and there. I encountered about 1/2 dozen hikers on my way up. The views are quite nice as are the surroundings; especially that green color I haven't seen since earlier this month. Sadly I did have to stop a few times. I knew by the time I got to the junction with Elden I wouldn't be doing the Christmas Tree Trail as I had planned.
As I got through the Fatman rock area the sky started dropping hard rain drops and bits of hail. I did bring my umbrella so I ended up using it for about 1/4 mile is all. It's fascinating how far a piece of hail can dance. I noticed the sign for the KOA so that's pretty cool that you can access this trail system from there. As I joined back up with the main trail some dude was peeing right next to a tree practically on the trail. REALLY, you can't step behind the tree. And he took awhile too. I'm sure his female companion was probably not amused either. He made no apologies. Really annoyed me.
Thankfully by the time I got back to Tonto Jr, a squirrel was picking up something and taking it up a tree so I followed it with my camera. While I was filming it frolicking on the branches it came down one branch and was almost in my face before it turned around. Wonder what game it was playing . So at least I could end my hike on that note rather than the other.

Next it was off to Safeway as apparently I was getting the groceries for the evening and morning meals. My family and Mia were coming up for a three-day weekend at an Airbnb. As I came out of the store it was pouring buckets and of course, it ended just as quickly as it started but I got pretty wet nonetheless. |

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
