I took the loop in a clockwise direction. I've only done a variation of this loop once before, January 2017, in a CCW direction. Ascending the Bursera trail at the end of that hike wore me out, so I decided to get Bursera out of the way first. The slog up National seemed like it was never going to end, but what a great workout.
Goat Hill was next, then the hard part was over. A couple of miles zooming along the ridge was fun. After one last short ascent on National a quarter mile before the Pyramid trail, the rest of the hike is mostly downhill. By then, I was ready for downhill.
I crossed paths with @JuanJaimeiii at the top of Pyramid just as he was powering up the last few yards. Good to see you John!
The weather was cool when I started at 7:00am, a little warm at the end when I finished. Smoke and haze dominated the skies. My throat was getting raw towards the end and I was wheezy. Nevertheless, it was a great hike and a great workout.
My phone isn't tracking miles and elevation correctly, so I used the guide stats. |
