The area immediately around the trailhead did not burn so that was nice to see but about ¾ mile down the trail we hit the burn. Parts of trail are washed out and in need of some maintenance but the upper part as it ascends to the saddle is in pretty good shape. Once on the saddle the burn is particularly bad and tough to see.
We hiked through the burn from the saddle but eventually it gives way to some unburned areas as we approached Reavis Ranch. I knew the orchards and ranch area were unburned but just barely. Everything around it on the hills sides is torched. We zigzagged through the orchard looking for the perfect apples Not a bumper crop this year but still decent considering the fire and lack of rain. Also noticed tons of bear scat full with apple pieces so they are enjoying the crop as well. We spent about 2 hours checking out the orchard and nice break near the creek which had light flow.
After the break we headed back to Rogers Trough and enjoyed hiking the valley before hitting the burn again. Also, stopped by the Reavis grave site on the way out. Fun day on the trail even though it was sad to see the burn damage |
