| no partners | | I've day hiked to Reavis Ranch numerous times, but finally got the chance to backpack it this past weekend. It was just a tad warm on the way out but nothing horrible, overnight temps weren't nearly as cold as I thought they would be though. Multiple deer sightings, with a bear coming within 20 yards of the camp at night and just your average mountain lion screaming in the middle of the night near our camp, we had it all including some juicy apples that were still in the orchard. This is the first time I've hiked to the ranch post Woodbury and unfortunately it's about as bad as I hoped it would not be. Some pockets of pine survived and the ranch was not touched, however all around it looks like it was high intensity burn. Log Trough Canyon had a massive flash flood that altered a good portion of that area as well. It is going to take a long time for it to be what it once was, but the chest high grass, catclaw, Scrub Oak and some New Mexican Locust make up for it. lol Passed 4 groups coming out when we were hiking in and surprisingly had the entire Ranch for ourselves the entire time! That will NEVER happen again I'm sure. |
