Been wanting to check out the concrete dam @jacobemerick reported on back in 2017 so with the cooler temps figured today would be that day. The worse of the off trail was near Tortilla Ranch, high grasses, lots of catclaw, and dense trees made it a bear to cut through to the creek. Hiked along a rock wall, saw 3 groups of deer totaling a full baker’s dozen, and enjoyed some pretty great views along the way. The dam construction was impressive and I assume built to provide water for livestock that roamed the hills. One decent size pool of water in the drainage. On the hike back I checked on the register placed at the lone remaining gate post along FR213 and sad to report the glass jar was shattered and the register missing. Fantastic day.
