Glen chose a route we had not taken before. We left one car at the junction of the old Apache trail (dirt road near mesquite flat) junction with the improved hwy 88. We rode in Richard's truck to the Tortilla Ranch trailhead and began our hike from there. We walked nearly a mile up the ranch road and came to a fork in the road and headed west on the intersecting road until it ended. Then followed the ridge line for awhile working our way on a preplanned route to reach the location of the prepositioned car. Seeing two deer and the overlook were the highlights of the hike.

We did see a few desert marigolds blooming as we walked toward the highway at the end of the hike..
