| partners | | Matt invited me to join him on a hike today, and the weather forecast looked like it would be perfect for me. I met him at the trailhead at 0700 and we headed uphill. It was cool and cloudy, but no breeze.
The first few miles was an easy, but rocky, dirt road. Tons of cattle in the area. Some running water in a few drainages. Once on the single track, it was overgrown in places, fire damaged, eroded, steep, hard to follow and even non-existent in places. We spent more time than anticipated just trying to stay on track. The sections of undamaged trail were quite pleasant despite being steep. If some maintenance was done on this trail, it would be pretty fun.
Once up on the ridge, there were great views in all directions. The trail heading east was once again vague, but there were plenty of cairns. The wind picked up and we were treated to some snow/graupel. After a while, we decided we weren’t going to make it as far on the ridge as originally planned, so we stopped and had lunch before heading back down. At this point, the clouds were moving out, but were replaced by gusty winds, which lasted the entire way back downhill.
The hike back down was uneventful and went by quickly. Walking the rocky road was mildly annoying, as it was difficult to set any sort of steady stride or pace. Great temps and breeze though.
Good to see Matt again, and good to get some nice miles and aeg! |
