It was in the 60's when we started, me and my new buddy Hugh Midity. He hung with me all day long.
I was soaked from the waist down for the first couple of hours from the dew and rain soaked foliage.
Going is mostly easy for the length of this canyon, with just a few bypasses required. Aways in, with my eyes on the ground. I was alarmed by a sound I had not heard before. I stopped and waited to see what and where is was. After is sounded again I spotted a fox on the other side of the canyon, 50 yards away. It barked? at me until I left the area.

Just after this I kicked up a good sized Bull Elk with a rack much larger than others I'd seen so far this year.
Hitting the end of Kehl Canyon I decided to head down canyon in ECC to hit some new territory on the way back.
It was starting to warm up and Hugh was holding tight. I soaked my neck gaiter and put it on my head to cool off.
After some off trail I headed back down ECC to try a new drainage off ECC. It was nice for awhile, but it got tight and the rocks started getting real slippery. I jumped out and climbed up the steep wall to the top to get on an old FR.
I saw more elk on the day than I could count. No deer and 1 fox. |
