| no partners | | The Rock Crossing Trail(s) have been on my list for ever. I've always wanted to hike all 3 sections as part of a loop. With CC Cragin being at 28% capacity and almost 60' down from full, I put a loop together. I parked in the pulloff next to FR751 and started on 18A.
18A is well defined and in good shape. At the bottom, I stepped over the East Clear Creek arm and made my way up the other side, 18B.
Once again, this segment up to the pumping station is a good tread. Close to the pumping station I took FR123 to the NE to get some better views of the reservoir. Back on 18B, the trail is a 2 track for a bit. At the end of the 2 track, the actual trail makes a sharp left. I missed that and just took the ridgeline down.
Going up 18C, the track gets a little faint towards the top. I was surprised to find a family camping at the TH.
To complete my loop, I had to drop into and out of Houston Draw and follow an old FR to Hart point. I had my lunch here before attempting to drop down into East Clear Creek. This was the part of my route that concerned me most because of the tight topo lines on the map. It was steep, but it all worked out.
I'd been able to keep my feet dry at all crossings so far, but that was not the case in East Clear Creek. I had 2 crossings that i could not avoid getting my feet wet.
After climbing up to the dam road, the remainder of the hike was was a road walk back to where I parked.
This was a fun little loop that I'd do again. |
