| no partners | | When I hiked the new portion of the Maricopa Trail 3 weeks ago, I discovered the new small park area in the middle of Estrella Mountain Ranch. It's centered around a small ridgeline butte and has several multi loop options. Seems like it's kind of designed for bikers (lots of ramps, braided sections, etc), but I noticed 2 bikers walking their bikes up hills that didn't seem too steep. So while there does seem to be a biker crowd here, they're pretty mellow.
I hiked figure 8 of the circumference of the ridgeline combined with the trail that follows just under the ridgeline, and a few other side trails. The area was pretty nice. The most interesting views are to the south and west off into the distant undeveloped desert. The signage isn't totally complete, but it gives enough info to let you know where you're at. The trail markers are homemade looking, but the map signs look pretty professional (although beat up a bit). I did most of the trails, but not all of them. Just enough of an excuse to go back once I need to explore more unhiked trails. |
