| no partners | | The Hawes Pass Alliance finished a couple new trails so this seems to be the time of year to try them. Got started at 5:50am, probably a record early start for me for local hikes. I wanted to hike the Maricopa Madness trail but I wasn't sure where it started exactly, so I asked someone who knew and was very helful. I took the main road east from the trailhead towards the trail, and someone on a dirt bike mentioned my ubiquitous Steeler gear. I told him where I was from, and he was from the same area, just across the river. We talked for a bit and were on our separate ways.
Once I located it, I took the Maricopa Madness Trail north and then crossed the road and continued to the Scorpion Trail. The map that the Hawes Alliance put out show the Maricopa Madness Trail ending at the road, but on the other side there was another marker indicating that it continued westward.
After crossing the NRA Pit (??), I took the Scorpion Trail north to the Bush Highway, where the Bush Lite East Trail picks up. I took that to the loop portion of the Bush Lite Trail, then headed south and picked up the Stinger Trail to the Wild Horse Trail, and headed back to the parking lot.
Saw alot of bikers, as expected. everyone was very nice, no biker bros this time. The weather was cooler than it's been recently, but also super humid. The weather forecast had a 10% chance of rain in the morning, but thankfully no rain cells or lightning were visible in the distance through the entire hike. I was a little nervous about this after getting hit by a storm on Thursday during my usual jog on the canal by my house. They can creep up fast.
Finished up early (since I started early). At the end I was absolutley drenched in sweat, and it was not a strenous hike. |
