| no partners | | I drove up Schnebly Hill road (starting in Sedona) late Sunday afternoon to snag a campsite so I could have a shorter drive to Flagstaff this morning. Holy crap that road was no joke and I enjoyed all the looks I received from the men driving their lifted trucks and Jeeps. No flat tires or injuries to Tessa and my campsite was insane!
Anyway I got up and got going relatively early; thankfully the rest of the drive to the 17 was a breeze! I had a couple of different tracks for Flag downloaded and was going to go based on my mood. It was barely 40 degrees and very windy this morning so I decided I’d start out with a drive on Hart Prairie road and see what that area was all about.
First off, that road was like a dream and easily sedan friendly in my opinion. I saw some patches of aspens off on a side road on the right and went to check that out. Okay, this road was looking promising! Next off I spotted a muddy side road on the left. This area was magical and had aspens at peak and no people. I made a mental note to come back and hammock there later but continued on the main road. I reached the turnoff that seems to be the main event for this road and again beautiful aspens at peak there too.
People started showing up, so I continued on and found a road that was a wildlife preserve area and closed to motorized traffic after the parking lot. I decided to hike this road to get a nice view of all the aspens at snowbowl. I wasn’t recording but it was a little over a mile each way and so beautiful!
I finished that little walk and just kept exploring other side roads and walking into the woods where I saw color. It was such a peaceful day and I was super relaxed so I decided to go back to the original side road I loved to eat my salad in my hammock. I hung out for a while, did some more exploring and then decided it was time to head back to reality. Not a big hiking weekend, but it was peaceful and beautiful so I’ll take it! |

Autumn Foliage Observation Substantial It was extremely windy in flagstaff today so I don’t know how much longer the aspens have… |
