Recently bought an electric hand warmer that was worth all $20, modern problem, modern solution. Found water at what I will call Goat Camp Spring. (About 3000 ft in the south canyon) I am surprised it does not show up on any maps. Plenty of water when I last visited in June of 2003 and slight trickle of water on this hike. Surprised to see a Tamarisk Tree growing just above the spring, wondered how it got there. Found the dense vegetation on the north slopes of the canyon to be Jojoba Plant? Nice to see the tall Ironwoods all leafed out due to the Sept/Oct rains. Past 3 or 4 people on the trail. More than I expected on a Monday. Had lunch camp in the canyon just above the dry creek crossing where I found deer droppings. Saw a coyote above me. Wild donkey scat at the spring? Enjoyed being in the shade most of the day in the upper canyon area. Better than a day at work in the city. |
