Starting at the Aspen Creek Trailhead on Copper Basin Road, take Aspen Creek Trail #48 (part of the Prescott Circle Trail) south to its junction with East Copper Trail #260. Turn right (north) towards Mt. Francis, a 7110 ft. peak southwest of Prescott with microwave relay and cellular antennas. The next turn is an acute right onto Moby Trail #737 (metal numerals behind and to your right at the junction). The last turn is even more acute to the left with no trail signs, as you return to the trailhead on Aspen Creek Trail #48. On this hike I didn't notice that #737 had ended and I was on #48, until I reached the junction with #260 and had to go back up a 45° slope that gradually became a 5° slope at the #48/#737 junction. The #48/#260 junction overlooks White Spar highway (AZ 89) between Prescott and Yarnell, but is far enough a way for only the loudest vehicles to be heard. On this hike starting at sunrise in early December the only sounds were my footsteps, birds and a couple airplanes, until I met two oncoming hikers shortly before returning to the trailhead. |
