The first 1.5 miles are all a steady climb and most of the rest is uphill also, although the trail crosses a few ravines, so there are a some downhill sections on the way out from the trailhead. The recorded hike is out and back. Hoot Owl Trail shares the trailhead, but no other trails were seen. Mostly Ponderosa pines and more Gambel oaks than I've seen on any other trail around Prescott, along with a few alligator junipers. Many Manzanita, but hardly any desert holly bushes which is the opposite of the area north of Granite Mountain and est of Williamson Valley Road. About a mile from the trailhead is a jumble of purple rocks that my wife said are probably amethyst. |

Wildflowers Observation Light In early May, lots of flowering Manzanita; many small yellow flowers; a few purple flowers; and a single flowering strawberry hedgehog cactus |
