Starting from the Iron Springs Trailhead, I took Javelina Trail #332 south to it's end at Thumb Butte Road west of the parking lot for the Thumb Butte trails. To avoid taking the same route back and wanting to hike about 10 miles, I took Tatanka Trail #735 to Russ T. Fender Trail #728, until I reached the south end of West Side Story Trail #725. The return to the Iron Springs Trailhead on #725 made the total about 10.5 miles (the recorded route starts south of the trailhead). The hike can be shortened by returning on #332, or lengthened by using other trails in the Spence Springs Basin.
