Someone knitted a sweater while the group patiently shivered and cracked jokes for ten minutes before starting. Karma struck with a swift gust sending my hat sailing away minutes into the hike, buh bye.

The game plan was to hit BCB first because it's easier to decipher going up, then tackle 3042. We lucked out missing the turn up to BCB. Heading to 3042 first, took us out of the wind and made for a better group split option.

The first mile along the south route around BCB sports a lot of geology for minimal effort. Unfortunately, we had to leave the calm zone to summit 3042. Creeks were trickling and everything was seeping. Ice filled the grooves of the skip-troweled rock surfaces hopscotched between soft-to-muddy ground.

While the upper views of the hike are among my favorites, the wind took the joy out of it. A high perched break was simply undesirable.

We group hiked in knocker ball fashion back to the BCB saddle to decide who wanted to tackle BCB and who wanted to skip it. The nice guys retraced the hike in and the balance of the group hit the 320 ft BCB ascent.

The west route up BCB is quick. We strolled over to the medicine wheel then tackled the descent. Thanks to all for helping get me down the sketch spots. Luckily we skipped my original route. Yet there was a moment I was uncertain if they genuinely thought I'd be okay or they were just starving... lol

Great to see everyone, the bonus was resetting an 11-year gap of hiking with Preston. Thanks to Bobzilla for fetching my hat at the end, the casual merge back in wearing it was classic!

After butchering the pronunciation of chalcedony for a couple of decades it might be pronounced cal ced oh knee... =)
