This week's hike with my Grandson was limited to two hours due to family obligations. That included travel time to and from the destination. So we decided on a short hike in Reach 11 between Tatum and 56th St since it is only about a 5 minute drive from his home. After arriving we headed straight for the small pond which never seems to dry up even during extended dry periods. Where it gets its water is a mystery to me. There were about a dozen mallards cruising around and feeding on something below the surface which made for some photo ops. Then we circled through the dense forest of Palo Verde and what looks like Mesquite trees hoping to get some photos of other birds. The birds were being elusive but we did find a few posers. It was a fun time for such a short excursion close to home.
