The lovely Mrs Dilling and I will be in California this weekend for a big family thing, so I had to get in my hiking today. Pass Mountain Loop is a quick and easy longer loop, so off I went at 530am this morning.

There was one other car in the Meridian TH parking lot. A couple of non-hiker looking suspicious types. As I started off, I had visions of coming back to a truck up on blocks with the tires, catalytic converter and everything else of value stripped away.

The weather was very nice starting off. I did not need a headlamp and started up towards the first saddle. I brought my older dslr, but I should have left it at home. I wanted to make some good time on this one.

I made my way up and over the saddle and started the turn around to the west. I came across another hiker going the other way in this area. The brittlebush is just about burnt away, but the palo verdes are all blooming nicely. The local Pass Mountain bees all seem to be hanging out in these trees. There was an ambient buzzing for most of the hike from striped pollenators.

A few ocotillo had their blooms, but very few cacti had any blooms. I did see a few saguaro blooms. Those are coming soon.

As I made my way around and past the Wind Cave Trail, I came across quite a few hikers going up and coming back down. As I kept going, I only ran into 1 other hiker who had started at the Pass Mountain TH. She was taking pictures. Other than couple of hikers & 1 mountain biker, the usual birds, a few lizards & bunnies and a zillion bees, I did not see any other living creatures all day.

My mileage from Route Scout showed 8.7 miles. My other trips on the same trail usually show about 7.8. So, I am not sure where the additional mileage came from.

A nice way to start the day. I had to stop and answer a few calls and emails towards the end, but a nice hike along a nice trail. Best of all, my truck was there when I arrived, as I left it.
