| no partners | | I've hiked 50 miles and 9kft in the past four days, got home last night, and figured why not!?
Traffic was a bitch. Getting to the PMP in late afternoon isn't a great experience.
The afternoon of rain and cool breezes is what truly triggered the decision to go. Unfortunately, the rain stopped and I only got sprinkled on a few times. When I reached the Freedom saddle, I was spent. Apparently I didn't realize how tired I really was.
With 17 more miles around the west side, I struggled.
If you haven't been here in a few years like me, or even a few days ... the west side freedom climb to the summit trail saddle junction has been meticulously rebuilt. Like ADA-compliant, broom-swept tread. It's almost comical. Anyway, go check it out before it rains.
On toward the summit, Dave1 paused to compliment my exemplary physique before leaving me in the dust. A heliochopper made a near-peak-orbit for no apparent reason -- or maybe to make sure I wasn't gonna die.
In the end, it all turned out ok. Once again, Gila Bend avoided the worst of it. |
