| no partners | | Met up with Dave W and decided we needed something relatively short since we were starting in the middle of the afternoon. I was expecting a bushwhack on this one, but was surprised to find out it was a good trail the entire way to the top. This was the perfect selection based on the amount of time we had before sunset. We took our time and spent at least 30 minutes at the peak. At the top was an antenna, a solar panel, and several rock piles. I searched fairly thoroughly for a registry but did not find one. I thought there would be some kind of registry at the top, but was pretty confident that one did not exist. If I hike this again, I could place one.
At the top there were nice views of Silverbell peak, Newman peak, and others nearby. Ragged top was mostly visible and behind what we thought was Silverbell peak. Picacho peak was in the foreground and looked tiny in comparison to Newman peak. All in all, it was a great hike and I would do it again.
At about 1/4 mile from the top there was a memorial for Loren Leonberger, a helicopter pilot who died attempting to land at a mining site in January 2011. |
