Last day of my Prescott trip to visit family, so I headed to Groom Creek for a nearby snow hike. Two cars at the trailhead, but no other hikers encountered on this overcast, windy, mid-30s day, with ragged storm clouds cruising low overhead. I took the shorter leg of the loop toward Spruce Mountain summit and started in patchy snow. Snow gradually got deeper as I ascended, reaching 6 or more inches at Spruce Mountain summit. Absolutely beautiful on the upper slopes, with trees caked in fresh snow and ice-encrusted oak branches. Great and memorable hike! Took the long way home to Tucson through Yarnell to avoid 1-17 debacles.
