| no partners | | This is hike #2 of the day after the Salida Gulch Loop Trail #95 we hiked earlier this morning. [ photoset ] Also our 100th log since joining HAZ After hike #1 we both had some gas left in the tank so we headed south of town to see the old Cole's Cabin on the Groom Creek Trail. Starting from the trailhead would have made for too long of an out and back so we drove south on the Senator Highway and parked off the road. We hiked due north to intersect the #307 trail which would then take us S/E towards the cabin.
I really need to use topo maps more often & studiously. Every thing appears so much flatter on Google Earth . The trek up to the cabin was a real slog for us SloFolks as the elevation graph shows in the photoset. Lots of up and downs going up and lots ups coming back down too. Rough terrain up to the trail didn't help either. OK, I'll quit whining...we made it after all, right?
The old cabin was kind of neat. I'm not clear on the history of it. It didn't appear to be a primary residence in it's day, that's for certain. Small size and no fireplace, but decent construction. Lots of clouds formed after 11 am but no rain ever materialized out of it. Just a lot of humidity. A breeze sure would have been nice. None the less, it was a great day with two nice hikes with my wife. I've been spending much more time with her due to the pandemic. She seems like a nice person. |
