| no partners | | Starting at Oldham Trailhead on Mount Elden Lookout Road I hiked up the road to Upper Oldham Trail, and followed the old and now abandoned original route up to Oldham Park. Upper Oldham Trail has been rebuilt into a gently sloping mountain bike route now, which I suspect adds significant length when compared to the original route. I prefer shorter and steeper myself.
From Oldham Park I hiked the lookout road to the summit of Mount Elden, noting only a single surviving tree planting from 2022’s effort among the seedling shelter tubes. Brilliant sunset on the hike back down, contrasting nicely with the snow and bare aspens. Walking through mixed conifer on the snowy road was absolutely beautiful and very enjoyable. Yaktrax on my boots made the hike down Upper Oldham’s snow covered route much more pleasant. |
