I had no beta whatsover on this hike, so I created a GPX track on route cloud using topo maps and a satellite view.
From where I parked, I made a short off-trail ascent to a ridgeline. There was a bit of brush on this off-trail portion, but it was easy to walk around.
Much to my surprise, when I got to the ridgeline there was an easy to follow use trail that led all the way to within 0.05 miles of the summit. It was a steep but otherwise easy hike from the trail to the summit.
There is a benchmark and 2 reference marks at the summit, along with a metal height-of-light pole that was sticking in the ground. This is the first height-of-light that I have seen that was made of something other than wood.
There were nice views of the surrounding area so I hung out a bit at the summit before heading back the way that I came.
On the ascent, I saw 2 white-tailed deer at a saddle below the summit.
Synopsis
This was a nice hike that was better than I expected that it would be. If I lived in the area, I'd come back and do this one again sometime. The Dragoons seem pretty nice and I wouldn't mind doing some other hikes in this range. |
