| partners | | Hooked up with Ray and Denny to check out the wildflowers around Butcher Jones Rec. area. We started hiking around 7:30 with only a handful of cars in the lot.
We checked out all the little spur trails on our way around enjoying the morning views. Next up, was the portion of trail that is no longer maintained. It is even harder to follow than my previous hike here last year. We opted to take the steep route up to Peak 1942. While it was a steep up, it had the highest concentrations of flowers for the entire hike.

Up top, we followed the ridgeline to the northeast until we could make it gently down to the wash for our return.

Back at the TH, the parking was full and they were even using the overflow lot. Many were on the beach, bathing suits on, trying to catch some rays. Speaking of Ray's.... this was the first time hiking with Ray in a couple of years. It was great to catch up. This was an enjoyable hike and spur of the moment route. Lots-o-flowers. Poppies, lupine, owl clover (even a white one), chia, fiddleneck, scorpionweed, desert chicory, goldfields, rock daisies, brittlebush and creosote.
On the drive out, between Butcher Jones and the Beeline, there were countless cars/people pulled over taking in the Poppies and wild horses. This has to be one of the premier spots in the state, if you want to see carpets of Poppies. If it was this busy on a Monday, I can only imagine how much of a zoo it would be this weekend. |
