| partners | | Well this day did not go as planned.
With forecasted temps in the 70's the plan was to hit up the Supes and check out the apple blossoms at Reavis Ranch.
A mile after turning on to the dirt off of Hewitt Station Road, we encountered barricades and a closed road. Evidently they were doing some prescribed burns through the 29th.
Plan B on the fly, ended up being Picketpost Circumference. It had been almost 10 years since I last did this. This would get us done before the heat hit and there is quite a bit of shade in sections.
My favorite sections of this hike are still the shaded southern and eastern portions. Water was running, birds were singing, butterflies were flutterin' and rocks were rocking. There's some interesting geology all the way around on this loop. We took a well deserved break at the creek after 5 grueling miles with triple digit elevation gain.
Back at the TH, a car just pulled up with a big AZT sticker on the passenger door. Out from the back seat popped a backpacker headed north. We chatted for a bit and he was being dropped off by a trail angel. They didn't have those back in the day when we were doing the AZT.
Good to hike with Joe, Joe the wonder chimp again. |
