I imagine that the peak got its name from the drab, scrubby vegetation in the area.
The hike is a road walk, and you'll need a high, clearance 4WD to avoid a really long road walk. Actually if you don't mind driving on a very steep and slippery road, you could drive all the way to the summit.
I pulled over and parked just before a steep and loose section of the road, since the hike wasn't going to be all that long. It was a steep climb though -- at the one mile mark of the hike Route Scout's split statistics said that I had gained 1,100 feet in elevation.
The hike up was a good workout, but the descent was too steep and slippery to be enjoyable. I likely went up faster than I came back down
There were nice views at the summit, so I spent a bit of time up there.
While the views at the summit were great, this was not a particularly enjoyable hike, as it was basically a road walk through a drab desert. |

Wildflowers Observation Isolated There were a few flowers, with apache plume being the most interesting. |
