| no partners | | Down south to inspect the 10th cav grave sites for my 8 or 9th year. The plaques have been up maybe 7 years. I was shocked how dry things looked, I must have lucked out after a big storm a few weeks ago. The area was good; with the lower vegetation I uncovered a new trail into the area. As I was getting ready to leave a truck pulled up, surprising for here.
I was less than pleased when two men came up into the area carrying metal detectors. I said " you know this is a graveyard area, right?" The younger man said ok we will stay away. An older man was a little more confrontational and gave me his resume of how many years he had been out here and a little history. My BS meter was activated. When he finished I thanked him for the information and told him I would be out here again to make sure nothing had been dug up. He patted his pistol on his hip, I smiled and said " how cute!" ( looked like a 22) and went on my way.
I left and made a short stop to look over a mining area just off the road. The secondary road was very roughed up from the wet winter and spring with quite a few rock steps in places. Driving out I saw their vehicle a distance behind me. Kinda strange that they did not stay long. I left them in my dust and went home. More rain in the offing according to the forecast so I will return sooner than later.
Oh, and there will be two photos in the set that don't go with this but I am adding them in to put them somewhere. |
