| no partners | | Trailhead was already full around 6:30am. Got a spot along the road just outside the parking area. Saw a small black bear climbing on a downed tree along the ridge at the beginning. Couldn't get a picture in time of course. First time I've seen one in the wild, assuming the brown thing on the road the night before was something else.
This is a good uphill climb with two snow patches along the upper section. Both are easily bypassed, the smaller one looks like it could be gone any day now. The second patch is larger and on a very steep slope. That didn't stop some people without poles or axes from walking across the top.
Tallac's reputation precedes it - the view of Lake Tahoe is impressive. Fallen Leaf Lake as well. All of it, really. |
