I ended up fitting in one more August hike after all...the only time I could find this week was another early morning trip to South Mountain before work. The timing worked out well, because the blue super moon lit way as I started before sunrise. It was a cool atmosphere with both horizons illuminated--the moon in the east and the rising sun in the west a little later in the hike.

I stuck with the same route along National and Hidden Valley that I've repeated many times this summer, and there wasn't much of note today aside from the super moon. Other than that, it was the typical wildlife and a handful of hikers and mountain bikers out on the trails. I noticed a few blooms on one saguaro, which was a surprise at this point in the season.
