| no partners | | My brother was in town visiting and had to be back by midafternoon, so we decided to stay local and went to the Superstitions. We hiked the Robber's Roost/Cave Trail loop [ triplog ] and were done well before noon, so we drove over to the Wave Cave Trailhead to give that a try.
There were three other cars parked there, and I hoped that everyone would be on the way down as the day warmed up. We did pass one pair of hikers on their way out, but as we got closer to the cave, we caught up to another pair still on the way up, and yet another pair posing on the wave when we got up there.
So, even on a weekday, with relatively warm temperatures, there was no solitude to be had at the Wave Cave, which wasn't a surprise. On the bright side, I guess my brother got the true Wave Cave experience: waiting in line, watching strangers do yoga poses on the wave, then having other strangers lurk awkwardly nearby while we sat in the cave...good times.
We didn't spend too long in there before we started back down, but I was glad he got to see it, and combined with the first hike earlier in the day, it was a good intro tour of that part of the Superstitions for someone who hasn't been there. Hopefully I can convince him to visit again soon and we can find a full day to do a longer hike. |
