Light rain and 46 degrees as we got started. Easy hiking up the forest road. Lots of trees, nice views of the lake, although the rain and clouds hindered any clear shots. I had a somewhat accurate track to use as a general guide. There are a ton of old logging roads on this mountain, so some spots weren’t entirely obvious. One wrong turn at a fork added some extra walking.
The rain stopped as we neared the summit, then started sleeting for a few minutes as we were up top. Reagan was okay with crossing the ridge up top. It was kind of messy hiking thru that short section—rough “trail”, lots of downed trees and vegetation. Not terrible, but everything we walked thru was rain soaked or muddy. Would have been really good views if the clouds weren’t so low.
Once back on the road, it was a fast walk to finish. Saw a few grouse. Nobody else out there today. Dirt bike tracks indicate these roads get some weekend activity though. Nice hike, with some good views for minimal effort. |
