| partners | | Denny invited me to join him and Bruce on a SoMo hike. I guess Bruce had run out of excuses to avoid me, and I suppose it was good to see him again. We met at the trailhead around 0830 and made our way over to Pyramid. For those keeping track, the Pyramid name is now completely gone, and is now officially the eastern half of Gila Trail, with the Gila signage now continuing all the way to where it meets National above the Eagles Nest.
Temps were not quite as cool as we had hoped, and it was a sweaty journey up Pyramid/Gila. Last night’s rain knocked down all the dust on the trail. Once at National, Denny decided he would have time to do a loop with one of the Lost trails before he needed to make it back for a hot lunch date. West on National, with a side trip to Goat Hill. Nice breeze on Goat Hill.
We opted to descend Lost Ranch Mine/Mine Drop/west half of Prospector Loop since the switchbacks on that trail make it slightly less steep than the other two. Bruce also loves switchbacks. Peeked into the larger mines. A lot of the bursera trees have new leaves. The final mile back to the trailhead went by quickly, punctuated by the howling of some nearby coyotes thanks to some sirens.
Fun hike with both Denny and Bruce, and the conversation was even better. Good to see both again! Noticed both Kelly and Fletch’s vehicles in the lot when we finished, but never crossed paths with them. |
