St Clair Peak looked kind of interesting, and fit the criteria for a weekday hike with Jill. First 1.30 miles or so followed a dirt road, then at about another half mile on a fainter dirt road. The offtrail up the northwest side of the peak was quite steep. We made short switchbacks up to a rock outcropping. After that, it was a milder ascent up to the summit.

We looked around the summit for a few minutes, then over to the ruins where we stopped for a break. Nice views in all directions. Cool breeze. Saw a javelina when we started our descent. I took a slightly better path downhill below the outcropping. Recent rain made the ground more forgiving as well. Once back on the old road, it was an easy walk back to the jeep. Saw three quail hunters as we were finishing, they didn’t seem to be having much success.

Nice little hike. Probably not one I’d do very often, but good to do something new.
