| partners | | Scott and I were wanting a hike with some snow without being too steep. Sixshooter is perfect for this. Parked at the bridge and headed uphill. Cool temps, but not cold, no breeze. Clear trail for the first couple of miles. Started seeing patches of snow on the trail around 5700’. Patchy snow for a while, then the trail was covered before we reached the junction with Telephone trail. Progressively deeper snow after that. Fairly easy to walk in, never slippery, but strenuous. I’m guessing everything at the top would have been deep enough for snowshoeing. Some deadfall here and there, but not too terrible.
Once past Ferndell Spring, we hopped onto the road, which had even deeper snow, and followed it to the summit of Pinal. The summit was covered in ladybugs. Had a quick lunch, then retraced our steps back downhill. Again the snow was no problem, although I was grateful for waterproof socks. Carried spikes, but never needed them. Saw lots of animals tracks, but only saw a few birds and a couple of squirrels for the day. Nice day, good to see Scott again, and a fun hike through the snow. |
