I went for the rock piles, but signed the register since I was there. I ascended and descended from the saddle and used the official route for the approach.

A hunter was sitting at the kiosk gutting a haul of Gambel’s quail when I started, but apart from him, I had the area to myself as one would expect. I started just after noon and finished up a little before 2:30 p.m. A little warm at times during the approach, but some cloud cover and a light breeze made for a downright pleasant stroll back to the car.
