It was a 23 mile drive over dirt road to get to the trail head the last 4 in Stronghold Canyon requiring high clearance vehicles (I told Ginny I could probably get my Prius in here with a little careful driving). Beautiful grass, oak terrain with massive granite rock boulders scattered around. The 3.5 mile hike up to Stronghold pass had magnificent views over West Stronghold Canyon. We had the canyon pretty much to ourselves with the exception of a group of campers at the trailhead. Stronghold creek had a light flow in places but everything was pretty damp from the last few days rain. Not much in the way of flower report except the monzanita bushes. Trail is in excellent condition and made the climb to the saddle easier.
After finishing the hike we headed down Canyon to Council Rock to check out that area. Just as we were getting ready to drive back down the canyon a herd of jeeps ( I think that's what you call a gathering of jeeps) comes up the road, never saw so many jeeps in one area except at the Jeep dealer. Must of been some kind of Jeep club. Great day for hiking in a seldom visited mountain range |
