We actually where a mile short of the junction with the crossover because we did that section last week from Temporal Canyon.
We ran into quite a few people through hiking the Arizona Trail, one at a time. They all seemed to know each other but were in separate groups. Stopped and talked to most of them. One person was from New Jersey and he was heading back to his car in Patagonia he had enough but his step daughter was continuing on she wanted to complete the first 100 miles before heading back to Jersey next week.
Really nice trail but excessively long being it follows Little Casa Blanca Canyon on the east ridge and goes in and around each side canyon. Probably would be half the distance if they followed along Little Casa Blanca creek bed. I understand why they did it this way they wanted to get the trail off of roads and there is a very old two track in the canyon bottom. They also rerouted the trail to avoid wilderness areas so mountain bikes could use it.
There was no water in any of the creeks which doesn't surprise me but a few cattle tanks had water in them. Little Casa Canyon looks really interesting and I think warrants another hike just walking along the creek bed up to the upper tank along the Temporal Canyon Crossover trail. There was an aircraft drop tank along the trail that probably was jettisoned from an air craft, couldn't find any information on it but it appeared to be some time ago. Lots of cows to keep you company and are great listeners, they just stare back at you. Great weather for hiking. Still have to figure out how we are going to tackle the last 10 to 11 miles of the trail. Looking for a mid way point to drive to to handle this in two in and back 10 mile hikes. Don't think Ginny will go for a 20 miler (although I got her up to 13 miles now) |
