Started out with plans to hike a section of AZT 3 that we weren't able to complete last time. Rather than hike the old AZT 3 from Harshaw Road, which we had done before, I thought I would try to drive into Red Rock Canyon via a dirt road off Harshaw road called Red Rock Canyon. Looked good on Google Earth but soon runs into Private property with gates. I will have to use the old AZT 3 to get to the 3.5 mile section that heads north. This would be a 14 mile round trip, I haven't mentioned that to Ginny yet. Plan B was to head up Temporal Canyon and hike the connector trail to Casa Blanca Canyon. I have never been on this trail before so it was new for me. I didn't have a GPS route for this but luckily I didn't need it because the trail head ius marked and the trail easy to follow, well maintained.

This trail I thought took a round about way to get where it was going. Just like the new AZT 4 it zig zags in and out of ravines following the ridgeline. Easy walking though but added miles. Beautiful scenery all the way. Little casa Blanca Canyon where the trail crosses the stream bed is particularly nice. Little Casa Blanca Tank might be worth a short side trip but we didn't have time for that. At the intersection of AZT 4 we headed south for a little over a mile then returned. This little excursion on 4 would allow us to finish up the southern end of AZT 4 with another 12 mile round trip hike. In defense of this AZT 4 there was a through hiker that we meet on the trail and he liked the trail, said it was a gradual steady climb the whole 7 miles up and after a rough prior day he was glad. The week before I meet a mountain biker who thought the trail dragged on and on. That's 1 in favor and 2 (if you count my opinion) that thought it was a bit long.

Great hike with beautiful weather.
