| no partners | | Sort of a tourist drive but I decided to do it on the way to Utah and glad I did. At the Game and Fish office for the Hualupai tribe in Peach Springs you pay currently 15 bucks plus tax for a day permit to trespass. I drove Route 6 or the Diamond Springs road to the Colorado River. I thought it rather pretty with big walls for part and narrowing canyon with greenery and driving thru some water for the last part. The beach is a launch and takeout for rafters. There are some nice areas to picnic or car camp ( more money) near the river with covered areas first come first serve.
The Colorado was muddy as expected. I was advised no hiking off the beach or more than 20 feet from the road but the rangers that checked my permit gave me other info. So there was no hiking and there will be a separate photoset for that.
I wouldn't go out of my way but rather than a hotel room in Kingman this would be a very worthwhile choice. If I come back I would get a permit mid afternoon, drive down and camp, then out the next day. |
