Long enjoyable drive. Lots of gates to go thru. Lots of cows wanting to go thru those gates; no success. A favorite canyon of mine, usually too hot this time of year. It goes into Cherry Creek and since the goodies are upcanyon I decided to go down then walk around Cherry creek.
At the confluence no surface water but that changed a short walk up the creek. Languid pools and broad level benches graced with big trees and set back cliffs had me thinking a little like a backpacking paradise. Except for the cow poop, which looked old, and the massive bear poop ( over 20 piles) which looked newer. A well defined trail creek side, which did not give away any type of prints. Old homestead area.
I had made my way down into the canyon from an old mining area so the return to the Jeep was fun. The car camp was great with forever sky views, down into Cherry Creek and a nice sunset. Great weekend.
