| no partners | | I love storms. I needed to hike to test my left knee for more challenging stuff. The forecast was favorable so off I went. Down a canyon I usually hike when water is flowing, but it still had pools and if the rain held out is probably flowing now.
The terrain is moderately rough and just what I needed although I was careful and had a knee brace on. The clouds came in with thunder and some distant lightning. I went far enough to do a bit of rock hopping and hounding and decided to head back.
Just before the Jeep the rain came; refreshing and cooling. I hopped in and the bottom dropped out, as I drove out from my secondary road it was like a great dark hand cupped the vehicle. Lightning all around and crazy wind and at times sideways rain. I decided 4wd would be good since I did not have good visibility briefly of the road edges. As I rose out of the dip I was in it was awesome to see the extent of the storm and experience the brief surges of wind which the Jeep would lean into and then away from. I did not take my usual way back because of the tendency for road flooding. I drove out of the edge of the storm and home. My knee did pretty well, I got a storm fix and a desert cool off, and some cool rocks. A great day in my book. |
